Sizzling Sensation – Burger Heaven at Ansh Cardiff

Ansh Burger Cardiff

As a devoted local food enthusiast, Ansh Burgers Cardiff embodies what I love most: homemade, local produce, quality and flavour! The burgers range from traditional classics to innovative creations and creative sides.

It’s literally farm-to-table! The meat is impeccably sourced and traceable directly from the family farm in Llygadenwyn in the Cambrian mountains. The farm, Cefn Blaenau, has been a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1989. The farm supplies its award-winning butchers, Oriel Jones, known for their ethical farming and high animal welfare standards.

As the menu is bilingual, native speakers or those who want to practice speaking Welsh, can do when you place the order. In Welsh, Ansh means a mouthful or a bite.

Ansh is a love letter to Wales, history, and hospitality.

Ansh Cardiff Menu

All of the menu items have a Welsh theme, based on famous people or local figures, mythical and real. From Betty Campbell with mutton, a potato bun, strong cheddar, and a Caribbean curry to Nansi Richards with halloumi, potato bun, cheddar cheese, and slaw, there really is something for all tastes. Gluten-free buns are also available.

The sides are different variations of chips: fries, sweet potato, truffle, parmesan, and chimichurri. There are also loaded fries, which are topped with mutton curry, beef in gravy, or garlic mushroom.

There’s a small selection of sweets, if you do have room for more. These hot cookie dough pots are from Let Them See Cake, which is next door. And drinks are from Crafty Devil, another Cardiff company that makes lager, pale ales and IPAs. Of course, there’s cider, wine and soft drinks, too.

So, what did I try?

If you’ve read any other Ansh reviews like them, I’m going to tell you to expect to get messy!

I really could have eaten all of these burgers and enjoyed them all. But after a long deliberation, I chose the Barti Ddu burger. It is named after Bartholomew Roberts, not as Black Bart or Barti Ddu in Welsh. He was one of the most famous pirates from the Golden Age of Piracy. He’s even mentioned in The Pirates of the Caribbean for writing the pirates’ code.

Anyway, the burger… was the ultimate eating experience. Each bite of the smashed beef patties reveals juicy tenderness. Smoked bacon, crisped to perfection, complements this, adding a delightful crunch and a depth of flavour for more meaty goodness.

No burger is complete without cheese, and the Welsh smoked cheese adds gooey, melted perfection. Finished with a dollop of seaweed rum sauce, which compliments the meat, it brings it all together. The whole thing was cooked to perfection and served in a lightly toasted black charcoal bun. Its dark hue hints at the bold flavours that lie within. The bun is soft and pillowy yet sturdy enough to hold all of the delicious fillings.

I also opted for a side of chilli, garlic, paprika and parmesan fries. Crispy chips, with a fluffy interior and topped with these vibrant flavours, make for an extravagant side. Unusually for me (and my big appetite), the burger was more than enough. Rather than one each, share? However, everything is served in takeaway boxes, so I took the chips home with me. I had them the next day for lunch, rewarmed in the air fryer and served with some pulled pork – perfection!

Wednesday to Friday between 4pm – 9pm and Saturday – Sunday 12pm – 9pm. It’s best to book a table, especially if there are a few of you, as there is limited seating. The outdoor garden is ideal for warm evenings!
