Burger Restaurants Cardiff
Regular readers will know my favourite burger restaurant isย Hubbox. Although I felt I was cheating on the joint, it is in Cardiff Bay. So, when in the city centre a few weeks ago, I visited the Eat The Bird restaurant on St Mary Street.ย
With minimal decoration, funky round lights and exposed pipes, the restaurant has a relaxed modern feel and is also casual and welcoming. You may think that chicken is the star of the show. However, there’s an equally epic range of beef, vegan and gluten-free options. The independent restaurant is part of a small chain and the first outside Devon. The other two restaurants are in Exeter and Taunton.ย

Eat The Bird Cardiff Reviews
Expect to get messy eating these burgers! The adjectives dirty and filthy are liberally sprayed around the Eat The Bird menu. Burgers are called things like Cluck Me, Clucking Hell, and Cluck Me Sideways. The pun theme continues throughout out.ย

I chose the Chicktator, a Korean-inspired chicken burger complete with kimchi. The fried chicken was crunchy on the outside and tender within in. The chicken is brined and double-coated to keep the juices in. Even though dripping with sauce, the lightly toasted brioche bun remains sturdy. However, I finished it with my knife and fork – I can’t stand having messy hands. The Korean sauce and kimchi overpowered the chicken flavour, but tasty all the same. All sauces at Eat The Bird are made in-house.ย
Chips are sold separately. There are salted fries or a selection of dirty options. One of the most popular is Kyiv fries, heavily laced with butter, chicken tenders, garlic and parmesan cheese. Since I chose a chicken burger, I wanted another meat on my chips, so I opted for cheeseburger fries from the specials menu. The chips were a deep, dark colour, which I loved. There’s nothing worse than an anaemic chip. They came smothered in a generous amount of ground beef, fried onions, ketchup, and mustard. It would have been even better with some gherkins too. What I love most is that they are fresh-cut, in-house. No frozen chips here!
The staff were super attentive, chatty and helpful. Unlike some restaurants I’ve been in lately, the staff actually seemed to enjoy their jobs and wanted to be there.ย
