Golf Fang Cardiff Reviews

You might think that Cardiff has enough crazy golf venues, with Gareth Bale’s Par 59, Treetop Adventure Golf and Boom Battle Bar. I always try to be open-minded when I attend the opening date of Cardiff’s newest nightlife hotspots. However, the grump in me is always a bit cynical. Golf Fang Cardiff is labelled as “not your average 18 hole crazy golf Cardiff venue, with an amazing atmosphere”. So, would it live up to the hype?

Quite simply, the venue is insane! You enter via two steep flights of stairs. Whilst getting my breath back at the top, the graffiti walls gave me NQ64 vibes, which is enhanced when you enter the main bar filled with Custom Neon Signs and funky street art-inspired décor.

If you’re expecting a small hole with a couple of obstacles, think again. Each hole has its own theme and own room. All are completely different, from a teddy bear cage to the Jeremy Kyle set and even a creepy corridor full of clowns. You even get to the bottom floor via a slide! What’s not to love?

As expected, I did get bored of actually playing golf. I’m rubbish at it, and I find it too frustrating. But did enjoy trying to decide which crazy theme the next room would have with my playmates. Instead, I’d enjoyed the good vibes, great music and cocktails. That didn’t mean I couldn’t appreciate the course. The striking set design is accompanied by a huge bar area, and a live DJ creates a brilliant party atmosphere.

It’s not a quick round; you can expect to be here for 2-3 hours, depending on how many of you there are and how good of a player you are.

Arcade Games

Big Fang Arcade is home to retro dance mats, air hockey, claw machines, classic NOS racing, and more. You have to buy tokens to use the games, with prices starting at £5 for four tokens, and each game requires one token.

Golf Fang Cardiff Drinks Menu

So, what’s on the Golf Fang menu? There’s beer, cider, spirits, soft drinks and mocktails. However, my boyfriend said it was the worst pint he’d ever had. Firstly, it was Coors Light. Secondly, it was flat, and thirdly it was served in a plastic cup. Whoops!

Of course, the highlight is Golf Fang cocktails. The Legends list comprises favourites from the other Golf Fang locations. Such as Golfers Paradise with vodka, passion fruit, apple juice, cranberry, mango and lime. Or Lethal Drizzle with gin, blackberry liqueur drizzle, elderflower, apple, and lemon juice topped with tonic. There are also signature cocktails.

Thankfully, the menu wasn’t full of gin drinks for a rum lover like me. The Ghetto Punch is right up my street with spiced rum, white rum, Wray & Nephew, passion fruit, cinnamon, apple, pineapple, orange and lime. Plus, Cherry Bomb with spiced rum, vanilla liqueur, pomegranate, and lime juice and topped with lemonade. Yum yum!

It’s not the cheapest drinks menu in Cardiff. A can, that’s right, a can of Inch’s Cider is £5 (you can get a four-pack for that in the supermarket), and a double spirit and mixer is £7.75 – ouch! And the cocktails are £8.50. So, your night out could become costly quite quickly.

Golf Fang Food Menu

After enjoying a round of golf, get some well-deserved pizza. Nothing Cheezy has its own section in the bar area and is designed to look like an American diner. With neon green stall seating, bright orange walls with a black-and-white tiled border, and pink tables.

Six different pizzas are available, including the classic Margherita and meat feast. The menu also includes nibbles such as chicken tenders, cheesy garlic bread, pizza dogs, and loaded fries.

Should you book?

Did I have fun? Yes! Would I go again? I don’t see it as somewhere I’m going to visit regularly. Especially now I’ve had the initial wow factor. But it is the perfect night out for big groups of friends or hen and stag groups. If it is raining, it is one of the top indoor activities in Cardiff. It would also be a good team-building experience with colleagues or as an alternative date night.
