Jamaican jerk and curried goat are perhaps the island’s most popular and well-known foods. Typically the food involves no red meat, and it is a celebration of fresh fruits and vegetables that come straight from the earth. Typical of Ital cuisine (celebrated by those in the Rastafari movement), it is absent of salt. Flavours come from a wealth of herbs and spices. You can grab a fork and dig in, in Cardiff. The Irie Shack Cardiff
I love the Irie Shack! I think it’s one of the best restaurants Cardiff. It is the premier Caribbean street food restaurant in Wales, found at 110 Woodville Road in Cathays. Visit the bar and restaurant or get a Jamaican takeaway Cardiff or home delivery. The authentic taste always gets rave reviews.
The curried goat, using Welsh mutton, is packed full of flavour with potatoes, peppers Scotch Bonnet and spices. The Caribbean restaurant is also known for its incredible burgers, sliders, dumplings, bites and dutty fries. These are jerk seasoned sweet potato fries topped with jalapenos, jerk sauce and cheese. The cocktails are delicious too.
Caribbean Way
The newest restaurant serving Jamaican food Cardiff, is on Clare Road in Grangetown. Founded in 2014, it started as a takeaway that used to be in a portacabin on Dumballs Road. The Caribbean food Cardiff has won a legion of fans, including rappers, footballers and reality stars.
At Caribbean Way, will you be drawn to their wide selection of jerk dishes? Or the traditional Caribbean dishes of curry goat and oxtail? The combo meals are perfect when you want to try various options. The rice and peas, with a hint of coconut, are light and will soak up the sexy sauces. Whereas the coleslaw is sweet and citrusy, this fruity freshness will contrast nicely with the rest of the meal.
Turtle Bay
The only chain restaurant on the list is Turtle Bay, one of the restaurants Cardiff City Centre. On the laid-back Turtle Bay Cardiff menu, you can expect fragrant jerk, slowly simmered curries and food popping with flavour. It’s also a Caribbean takeaway Cardiff.
And just like a beach club, the cocktails flow just as well as the reggae beats. One of the most popular cocktail bars in Cardiff, happy hour is every single day until 7pm. Then from 9.30pm until they close. It’s also one of the places you can get a bottomless brunch in Cardiff. Make sure you book in advance!
Rockin’ Chair
The Jamaican restaurant Cardiff, cafe, diner, and bar is on Lower Cathedral Road in Riverside. You can expect down-to-earth hospitality and reasonable prices. From curried mutton and jerk chicken and snapper to fried plantain and, of course, rice and peas. Sip on cold Red Stripes or cocktails – or a great selection of rums – whilst listening to reggae music.
Butcher’s Arms
The Butcher’s Arms in Llandaff has all the atmosphere and feel of a country pub, despite being in the heart of a city. There’s a huge heated garden area, ideal for evening drinks. The traditional pub food is also paired with themed nights such as pizza on Thursdays and Caribbean on Saturdays between 4pm-7.30pm. Choose between browned stewed chicken, curried mutton and ackee and saltfish. Served with rice and peas for £8 per person. You can even add on mac and cheese for £1.
