Cardiff Chinese – Canton
Riverside Cantonese
A short walk from the Cardiff City Stadium is the Riverside Cantonese Restaurant. The chefs are all trained in Hong Kong and offer an eclectic menu for diners. You can get sent menus for two to six people and include dishes like prawn crackers, lettuce rolls, lemon chicken, kung po king prawns, satay beef, Pak choi, duck with cashew nuts barbecued spare ribs. Individual items can also be ordered. Bookings can be made by calling 029 2022 7333.
Chinese Restaurant Cardiff City Stadium
The Good World Chinese Restaurant is found at the casino in the Capital Retail Park in Leckwith, opposite Cardiff City Football Club. It used to be called Dragon Court Chinese Restaurant. It’s open 7 days a week from midday and open until 2am on Sunday, Monday and Tuesdays.
Happy Gathering
The Chinese restaurant on Cowbridge Road East is open Monday to Sunday for dining in or takeaway.ย Happy Gatheringย is a Dim Sum specialist and offers lunchtime specials, a la carte and set menus. Dim sum favourites include prawn dumplings, soya roll in oyster sauce, pork siu mai, curry squid and chilli and black bean ribs.ย
Kimchi
Serving authentic Korean and Chinese dishes, Kimchi is a popular restaurant on Cowbridge Road East. The experience is interactive where you can cook on a BBQ in the centre of the table. You can choose tasty calamari, beef bulgogi and grilled beef. It’s worth coming to this restaurant to try good green tea ice cream, rice cakes and sesame ice cream.
Cardiff Chinese restaurant in Grangetown
Yangs
You can expect large portions in Yangs on Penarth Road. Order your favourite classic or try one of the feasts (the set menu). Get mixed hors d’oeuvres to start, followed by crispy aromatic duck. Then depending on which feast you choose, sweet and sour king prawn Cantonese style, sea spice pork, aubergine in black bean sauce, beef with cashew nuts with young chow fried rice.
Chinese food Cardiff โ Cathays
In Cafe Cardiff
Found in the heart of the student area of Cathays on Crwys Road, initially, the restaurant started serving breakfast and sandwiches. In Cafe Cardiff serves Hong Kong-style dishes. The service and prices are often highly praised. Many believe the vegan selection has been taken to a new level, with sweet n sour non-chicken balls and vegan duck and mushrooms. They are rated number one on Tripadvisor, with many calling it the best Chinese takeaway in Cardiff.
Anna Loka
The vegan restaurant has burgers, wraps and bowls on the menu. However, they do also offer an Asian Fusion set menu for two. It includes vegetable dumplings, tofu fried rice, Hong Kong mushroom curry, and crispy tofu in Peking sauce. Anna Loka is on Albany Road.
Bo Zan
Bo Zan on Albany Road has a relaxed atmosphere and retro Chinese dรฉcor. To be honest, it doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it would be a mistake to walk past. It is praised for the excellent service from the owner. I highly recommend the crispy seaweed and prawn toasts. It is open daily from 5pm. Reservations can be made by calling 02920 493617.
UPDATE – Bo Zan is now permanently closed
Zi’s Cafe
Dine in the restaurant, or get a takeaway for delivery or collection on Woodville Road. Zi’s Cafe has an extensive menu with starters, soups, chef specials, shellfish, squid and king prawn dishes, plus lamb, duck, beef and chicken. Vegetarians and vegans can tuck into tofu, bean curd and mixed vegetable dishes. With noodles, rice and sides. You can even try bubble milk tea.
Hotpot Spot
Wales’ first and only restaurant to specialise in Chinese hotpot dining. Gather round the table at Hotpot Spot, which can be found on Wellfield Road near The Globe. You choose two broths and ingredients, which you add to the pot on your table. The pot has a divider in the middle. The food only takes minutes to cook, and you can add meat, seafood, vegetables and noodles. Sides include bao buns and pancakes.

Chinese Restaurant City Road
Snap Dragon Chinese Restaurant has an English menu with standard Chinese food and a Chinese menu with English descriptions. Here there are more experimental dishes, such as pig intestines or beef maw. Service is always fast and friendly. It’s unassuming from the outside, but worth walking through the doors.

Getting around Cardiff has never been easier. With stops in The Valleys, Taffs Well, Radyr, Whitchurch, Llandaff North, Cathays, two in the city centre โ Queen Street and Cardiff Central โ plus Cardiff Bay.

Chinese restaurants Cardiff – Heath
Crispy Duck
The classy restaurant on Whitchurch Road serves Pan Asian food, specialising in Chinese and Japanese food. The menu is also influenced by Thailand and Malaysia. Favourites on the menu include the crispy squid, king prawn skewers with satay sauce, sushi, and of course, duck pancakes. The Crispy Duck is closed on Mondays. Order online and get 15% discount on your takeaway.
Great China
Also on Whitchurch Road is Great China. The traditional restaurant is closed on Wednesdays. It has a great concept: you pay a set price and order whatever you like (2 dishes at a time). As long as you don’t waste any food. If you do, there is a penalty price of ยฃ5. Each dish is freshly cooked and brought to the table piping hot.
Chinese Cardiff โ Llandaff
Summer Palace
Summer Place can be found on Llandaff High Street and is one of the longest-serving family-run restaurants and takeaways in Cardiff. It opened in 1988. The Hong Kong-style menu includes set menus or individual dishes. Favourites include crispy shredded beef, chicken in black bean sauce, sweet and sour pork, and Yung chow fried rice. The restaurant is open Wednesday to Sunday in the evenings only. It’s just one of the places to eat in Llandaff and Llandaff North.
Chinese Restaurants in Cardiff City Centre
No 23
If you’re looking for a Chinese restaurant Cardiff City Centre, head to No. 23 on Churchill Way. They serve Szechuan-style dishes and are popular with the Chinese community in Cardiff, which is authentic and of good quality.
UPDATE – Number 23 is now closed.
Wok to Walk
Not a traditional Chinese restaurant, but Wok to Walk serves fresh food in a flash. Choose your base of a choice of noodles, rice or vegetable mix. Then add your favourites such as chicken, beef, duck, shrimps, mushrooms, tofu and broccoli, then add a sauce. After a night out and before I get a taxi home, my favourite is jasmine rice with chicken katsu, shitake mushrooms, and Pak choi with Bangkok sauce (yellow curry and coconut).
Wiwo Noodle Bar
Aw Wiwo, you choose your base of noodles or rice, pick your fillings like chicken breast, duck, prawns, tofu, mixed peppers and peanuts, then your sauce and toppings. There are even sides like spring rolls, vegetable tempura, satay skewers, edamame, fishcakes and chilli pepper chips.
Chopstix
The Pan Asian noodles are perfect for lunch or an afternoon snack. Chopstix is on Queen Street, delivering on Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat. Some of the favourites are salt and pepper chicken, caramel chicken and pumpkin katsu. The Hot Wok for One deal is ideal and includes a medium box, extra topping and spring roll bucket.

Oriental Garden
The Chinese restaurant Cardiff Bay is in the Red Dragon Centre serves all you can eat Chinese, Thai and Malaysian dishes. You can select four plates at a time, including curry, sweet and sour, crispy beer and oriental mixed vegetables, alongside spring rolls, chicken wings, spare ribs and aromatic duck.

Best Chinese Takeaway in Cardiff
My go-to Chinese takeaway Cardiff is China Garden in Llandaff North. I usually order Singapore fried rice, sweet and sour prawns Cantonese style with beansprouts, noodles, and prawn crackers. And, yes, I have the leftovers for brunch the next day. It’s delicious! Another favourite is China Kitchen Cardiff on Albany Road.
