Port Eynon Pubs and Restaurants
If you’re looking for one of the best places to eat on The Gower, The Ship Inn in Port Eynon should be firmly on your radar. Just a short stroll from the beach, this historic pub combines coastal charm, a welcoming atmosphere and, most importantly, excellent food that keeps visitors returning year after year.
Widely regarded as one of the best pubs in Port Eynon, The Ship Inn is owned by Gower Brewery and has built a reputation for serving generous portions, quality local ingredients and a fantastic range of daily specials.
Before we even get to the food, it’s worth mentioning that this is a genuinely welcoming venue. The pub has a rustic seafaring theme throughout and a lovely, relaxed atmosphere that suits families, walkers and beachgoers alike. Outside, there’s also a large beer garden, perfect for sunny afternoons after exploring the coast.

The Ship Inn Port Eynon Menu
The menu focuses on hearty British favourites with a strong emphasis on fresh local produce and seafood. Starters include whitebait, calamari, whipped feta and chicken skewers, while mains range from beer-battered cod and homemade curries to steaks and slow-cooked beef dishes.
Being so close to the sea, seafood naturally plays a starring role, and the pub’s own fish counter and lobster tank help ensure incredible freshness. Whether you’re craving locally landed fish, a seafood linguine or something from the grill, there’s plenty to tempt you.
One of the highlights is the ever-changing specials board, which showcases seasonal ingredients and locally sourced dishes that reflect what’s available that day.

Our Food Experience
During our visit, we couldn’t resist ordering from the daily specials.
I chose the Minted Lamb Burger, which was impressive. Featuring two generous 4oz lamb burgers in a sourdough bun with Jack cheese, minted mayo, lettuce and tomato, it was packed with flavour. Served alongside proper chips, which always gets bonus points from me.
My partner picked the Slow Roasted Welsh Lamb Shank, served with creamy mashed potato, seasonal vegetables (carrots and beans) and a homemade honey, mint and Smugglers cider sauce. The lamb was beautifully tender, falling away from the bone with barely any effort. The sauce added just the right balance of sweetness and freshness, while the rich gravy soaked perfectly into the mash.
The quality of the ingredients really stood out. Every element felt freshly prepared, and the generous portions offered excellent value considering the location.
The Ship Inn Port Eynon Sunday Lunch
Many visitors specifically come for the Sunday lunch, which has earned a strong reputation across Swansea and The Gower. Traditional roasts are served with all the classic trimmings, including giant Yorkshire puddings, cauliflower cheese, vegetables and plenty of gravy.
Ship Inn Port Eynon Dog Friendly
Dogs are welcome in the bar and function rooms. There are dog beds, water fountains and complimentary dog biscuits, making it one of the most accommodating dog-friendly venues on the coast.
We even treated Ivan to a portion of sausages from the menu, because he’s a King and deserves to be spoiled. They arrived piping hot and disappeared in record time.

Port Eynon Restaurants
The Ship Inn stands out for consistently delivering quality food. Whether you’re stopping for lunch after a beach walk, enjoying dinner with family or simply looking for one of the most enjoyable pubs on The Gower, this is a venue that gets the balance just right.
It is on the higher end, price-wise, with the burger, lamb shank, 4 drinks and the dog’s sausages costing ยฃ76.55. But considering the quality, the prices were fair and good value.
It’s a destination in its own right, and one we’ll happily return to whenever we’re back exploring this beautiful corner of Wales.
