Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm
I’m absolutely a cider girl! It’s my drink of choice for a quick one in the pub or on match day. So, when we visited Newquay, I had to visit Healey Cider Farm, which was less than 20 minutes away. The Cornish cider company produces one of my favourite local drinks – the Cornwall Cider Rattler.
Grab one of their classic ciders while exploring the beautiful farm – the perfect way to enjoy the English countryside! Not only will you learn how they’re made, but there’s also a cider production museum. Make a pit stop at Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm.
Why do they call it Cyder?
So, cyder isn’t just the Cornish way of saying Cider; it is all about the production process. Cider is made by re-pressing the pulp, whereas Cyder is made similarly to fine wines, with the juice from the apples being left to mature in casks.

So, why should you visit Healeys Cyder Farm and Rattler Experience? Here are five great reasons:
1. Healeys Cyder Farm Tour
The self-guided tour includes access to the Production Halls, Kay’s Cyderhouse, Healey Car Museum, Cyder Museum, Healeys Distillery and Cellars and Healeys Tasting Room. You access each area with a QR code on a leaflet the team gives you when you arrive. You can take each section and your own pace. Our whole visit was two and a half hours. This included taking turns going into the areas where we couldn’t take Ivan, our rescue dog. It was a beautiful summer’s day, so we also had drinks in the sunshine.
During your visit, you can add on a Vintage Tractor Ride, which is also dog-friendly. You travel from the farm to the apple orchard, listening to how the Cornish grow apples. It takes about 20 minutes.
There are also guided tours. The Cydermaster Tour showcases the whole journey from orchard to pour. There’s also an option for families, and includes the tractor ride. Healeys Distillery Tour is for spirit lovers. The adult-only experience delves into the craft behind Cornish spirits, England’s oldest Whiskey and Rattler Spirits. The Full Healeys Experience is the ultimate VIP tour. You end up at the Secret Cellar Bar, where you learn the art of cyder and spirit tasting.
2. Museum
The Healey Museum is fascinating. It ‘unlocks the secrets’ of traditional cider making. There’s equipment from throughout the centuries and interesting stories on production, bottling and storing. It’s a fascinating insight into the history and the cider process.
3. Tastings
Of course, the highlight of your visit is getting to taste the cyder, wines, spirits, juices and preserves. When you arrive at the farm, you are given a leaflet. In this you can mark what drinks you try and make some notes – so, you may want to bring a pen. There are over 60 products to sample!
The guides in the tasting room will talk you through the unique flavours of the barrel-matured cyder, and you may even get to try the newest flavours at the innovation station. When I visited the day before, they had a brand-new juice press. I tasted bottled apple juice that, less than 24 hours before, was still a whole fruit. Trying all the flavours and different Cornish Rattler Percentages is also fun.
The Jam Kitchen is where they make jam and sauces; there are plenty of free tastings. Throughout the year, whilst on our staycation or day trips, I purchase different chutneys for us to devour at Christmas. This was the perfect place to try and buy. You can pick up your favourite scrumpy, drinks and jams at the Rattler Cider Farm Shop before you leave.
4. Restaurant
Healeys Cyder Farm Restaurant is called the Old Bottlery Restaurant. It serves hearty, home-cooked meals using the finest local ingredients and those grown on the farm. The restaurant is in a converted barn, which spills out into the courtyard. The day starts with big Cornish breakfasts, hearty burgers, salads and flatbreads. Afternoon tea and cream teas are also available. The scones are made from scratch and topped with jams made on the farm.

5. Healeys Cyder Farm Events
So many exciting events happen at the Cornish Rattler Farm all year round. From the Cornish Apple Bobbing Championship to the Healeys Cyder Farm Festival – Rattler Fest. Healeys Cyder Farm Pineapple Beach is the best place to enjoy a refreshing pint, cream tea or takeaway Cornish pasty.
The Healeys Cyder Farm Music Festival, known as The Little Orchard Cider and Musical Festival, occurs each September. This is followed by the Healeys Cyder Farm Halloween celebrations with haunted tractor rides, a pumpkin patch and carving sessions.
At the end of the year are the Healeys Cyder Farm Christmas Markets. They run every weekend from mid-November. It’s the perfect way to stock up on festive gifts alongside mulled cyder, hearty food, Christmas songs and crafts.
Lastly, you can get married here! The Healey’s Cider Farm Wedding party takes part in the Old Bottlery Restaurant. It is a beautiful venue to celebrate with friends and family, and there would be easy access to a celebratory cider!
Healeys Cyder Farm Prices
Entry to the restaurant, farm animals, lower courtyard and visitor shop is free.
Access to the self-guided tour, production hall, museum and tasting rooms is a charge. Healeys Cyder Farm Tickets are £16 per adult. However, you get a 20% off discount for booking online in advance. There is also an off-peak discount. Senior, children and family tickets are also available. Plus, you can visit again for free within the next 12 months.
To enhance your experience, you can add on a Vintage Tractor Ride for £6 per adult when you book. You can travel from the farm to the apple orchards. Or the Full Healeys Experience, an adult-only tour with a detailed guided tour before ending up in the Secret Cellar Bar.

Blue Light and Defence Discount Card holders get half-price entry to access all areas, free tastings and unlimited free return visits for 12 months. Use the discount code BLUE50. Remember to use the cardholder’s name, as they’ll need to show their ID before entry.
Healeys Cyder Farm Locals Pass
For just 50p, you can purchase a ‘Locals Loyalty Card’ that gives you 10% off in the shop and restaurant every time you visit.
At certain times of the year, a Local’s Pass is available for residents living in the TR and PL postcodes. It is £5 and includes unlimited visits to the farm and tastings.

You can visit all year round except Christmas Day and Boxing Day. November to March between 9am-5pm, April to June between 9am-6pm, July and August between 9am-8pm and September and October between 9am-6pm.
Healeys Cyder Farm Are Dogs Allowed?
Is Healeys Cyder Farm Dogs Friendly? Yes, it is! Dogs on a lead are made to feel very welcome. They can go in most areas and even on the tractor ride. They can’t go in the production halls and jam kitchen, for obvious reasons.

Travelodge Newquay Seafront
So, when I visited, I stayed at the Travelodge Newquay Seafront. The stay was purchased during their January Sale, so we got a great deal – 4 nights in May, room only, for £256, including the pet charge. We had to pay an additional £40 for parking at Asda, which is across the road. I was a bit apprehensive about this at first because I didn’t know the area. But it was so easy and convenient.
The rooms aren’t serviced unless you stay for more than 6 days. However, you can request top-ups and fresh towels. Ivan was made to feel welcome by the staff and guests. The only “difficulty” we had was trying to clean his food bowl in the tiny sink.
What I loved most was listening to the waves when nodding off and, of course, waking up to the sound too. Considering the room is above Aldi and on a main road, I was concerned it would be noisy – especially on the weekend – but we had no issues at all. We heard nothing, and our window was open all night!
