Sushi Life Cardiff Reviews

Our experience at Sushi Life in Whitchurch was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of delicious food, friendly service, and a warm atmosphere makes it a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts in Cardiff. Whether you’re a seasoned sushi lover or a newcomer to Japanese cuisine, Sushi Life promises a dining experience that will leave you craving more.

Sushi Life Menu

We kicked off with the Chicken Gyoza. A quintet of deep-fried dumplings was served piping hot. The golden-brown exterior offered a satisfying crunch, giving way to a succulent chicken filling that was both flavourful and comforting. Accompanied by a sweet chilli sauce, each bite delivered a harmonious balance of sweetness and subtle heat, making it a perfect start to our meal.

Next up were the Grilled Beef Skewers. Succulent morsels of beef, grilled to tender perfection, were artfully arranged atop a fresh mixed-leaf salad. The drizzle of teriyaki and Goma sauces added a rich, savoury depth. At the same time, a sprinkle of chives provided a fresh, aromatic finish.

Last from the appetisers was the Takoyaki, deep-fried balls filled with tender octopus pieces. Perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, the takoyaki are traditionally served hot, drizzled with tangy takoyaki sauce and creamy Japanese mayonnaise. Mike absolutely loved them, but they weren’t for me. I didn’t enjoy the texture, and I’ve never been a fan of octopus’ flavour. But, it’s always good to try something new!

The Tokyo Platter

The pièce de résistance was undoubtedly the Tokyo Platter, a vibrant assortment of maki rolls that showcased the chefs’ artistry and attention to detail. Each roll had its own pop of flavour and texture. This assortment included:

  • California Maki: A timeless favourite, combining tender crab, creamy avocado, and crisp cucumber, enveloped in perfectly seasoned rice and nori.
  • Cut the Crab Maki: A delightful variation featuring fresh crab meat, offering a sweet, oceanic flavour that was both refreshing and indulgent.
  • Hell in the Kitchen Maki: This spicy roll delivered a fiery kick, balanced with its savoury fillings for those seeking a thrill.
  • Prawn Tempura Maki: Crispy prawn tempura encased in soft rice and seaweed that was both satisfying and moreish.
  • Green Dragon Maki: A visual delight featuring fresh salmon, crisp cucumber, and creamy avocado, crowned with additional avocado slices and a sprinkle of chives.
  • Red Dragon Maki: A bold creation with salmon, cucumber, and avocado at its core, topped with flame-torched salmon and chives, imparting a smoky richness that lingered pleasantly on the palate.
