The Harbour Seafood Restaurant Plymouth Review

Visiting The Harbour Seafood Restaurant in Plymouth has become our little tradition. Every time we return from a trip to Looe and Polperro in Cornwall (full of fudge and pasties, but still mysteriously hungry), we make a pit stop here. And it never disappoints!

Best Seafood Restaurant Plymouth

If youโ€™ve ever found yourself wandering along Plymouthโ€™s historic Barbican, youโ€™ll know the pull of the famous Mayflower Steps. But just a few paces away lies something equally iconic (at least in our books!) โ€“ The Harbour Seafood Restaurant Plymouth, home of some of the best fish and chips weโ€™ve ever tasted.

The atmosphere is relaxed and cheerful, and you get that fresh sea breeze wafting in from the harbour. Itโ€™s exactly what youโ€™d want from seafood restaurants in Plymouth. Fresh fish, smiling faces, and a view of the boats bobbing about outside. Bliss.

Dog Friendly Seafood Restaurant Barbican

First, itโ€™s dog-friendly โ€“ so if youโ€™ve got a four-legged family member like us, youโ€™re all sorted. Thereโ€™s something so lovely about finding a spot where the whole family is welcome, paws and all. Ivan always gets fussed over by the friendly staff and is brought a bowl of water while we settle in for some seriously good grub.

Harbour Fish and Chips Plymouth

Now, letโ€™s talk about the menu. Whether youโ€™re craving classic fish and chips or fancy something a little different, thereโ€™s loads to choose from.

As weโ€™re usually there at lunchtime, we always go straight for The Harbour Special โ€“ because, honestly, why mess with perfection? Crisp batter, flaky fish, golden homemade chipsโ€ฆ itโ€™s the stuff of seaside dreams. You can choose homemade mushy peas or garden peas. It also comes with homemade tartare sauce. Plus, a drink โ€“ pot of tea, soft drink or half a pint of Harbour Lager or South West Orchards Cider. Thereโ€™s even a smaller portion for those who havenโ€™t got a big appetite.

But if you fancy mixing it up, there are fresh mussels, calamari, and even a seafood platter thatโ€™s perfect for sharing (or not – we wonโ€™t judge). Oh, and vegetarians, kids, and gluten-free people are catered for, too, so no oneโ€™s left out. The menu is designed to ensure everyone can find something they love.

On my most recent visit, I tried the tacos โ€“ tortilla wraps loaded with guacamole, salsa, breaded scallops and prawns, finished off with mint yoghurt, sriracha, spring onions, and chillis. They were absolutely packed with flavour, and they came with unlimited homemade chips (yes, you read that right – unlimited!). It was a total winner. And it may be my new go-to order!

Harbour Seafood Restaurant Plymouth Menu Prices

As for the Harbour Seafood Restaurant Plymouth Prices, we think theyโ€™re spot on. Youโ€™re getting fresh, locally caught fish, beautifully cooked, in a prime location. Itโ€™s great value, especially considering the quality.

The Lunchtime Specials are ยฃ15-20. Whereas the majority of mains are from ยฃ17-ยฃ22, with generous portions. Worth every penny! Some of the fresh catches, seafood dishes and lobster are more.

Barbican Fish and Chips Plymouth

If youโ€™re exploring the Barbican (and you should be โ€“ thereโ€™s loads of history and cute little shops to poke around in), this is the spot to grab a plate of classic British food. Sit outside if the weatherโ€™s good, and enjoy people-watching while tucking into something hot and delicious. Thereโ€™s just something about eating fresh fish by the sea, isnโ€™t there?
