Cicchetti Meaning
The term cicchetti refers to small plates or snacks typically served in traditional Venetian wine bars. These small portions are designed for sharing, making the dining experience more sociable and varied. This ethos of sharing and savouring different flavours shines through in the Cicchetti Radyr menu.
The Cicchetti Cardiff Menu
To celebrate a birthday, five of us ate at Cicchetti. With big appetites, our meal began with a selection of starters. The Arancini Siciliani are beautifully presented rice balls filled with rich beef ragu. These little golden spheres were crispy on the outside and bursting with flavour on the inside. The accompanying roasted red pepper dip was an excellent choice – I absolutely loved this – adding a touch of sweetness and a gentle hint of spice.

Next, we moved on to the Crostini Con Gamberetti – toasted sourdough topped with juicy prawns, chilli, and white wine. The prawns were perfectly cooked, tender and slightly sweet, and the subtle heat from the chilli, combined with the white wine’s acidity. The sourdough provided a delightful crunch with every bite.
We also shared a starter from the specials – garlic bread with parsley, Parmigiana, and chilli – which was a delightful twist on the classic. The bread was soft and thick, with the perfect amount of punch.

Main Courses
Two of the party couldn’t resist the classic Rigatoni Bolognese. This dish is one of Cicchetti’s signatures, and it certainly did not disappoint. The rich ragu, a duo of pork and beef slow-cooked in Chianti for up to five hours, was hearty and comforting. The slow cooking infused the meat with a complex, deep flavour. One of the party asked for extra garlic, and they accommodated this with no issues.

Joanne had the Filetto, a fillet steak cooked medium rare, tender and juicy. She said it melted in her mouth with each bite. The dish also came with a roasted portobello mushroom, grilled cherry tomatoes, a velvety peppercorn sauce, and chips. The mushroom added an earthy depth, while the cherry tomatoes brought a fresh burst of sweetness.
The boyfriend had the Calzone filled with tomato, mozzarella, salami, and mushrooms. He asked if he could have Bolognese over the top, something we had in Rome, and he’s loved it ever since. The crust was beautifully crisp on the outside and soft inside, encasing a generous filling of melted cheese and savoury salami. As expected, he didn’t leave a bite and would have licked the plate clean if we weren’t in public.

My dish of choice was the Ravioli Al Lobster. Handmade ravioli filled with lobster, ricotta, and parsley were served in a rose sauce and topped with samphire. I was a little disappointed, as the lobster was a little fishy, making me believe it wasn’t fresh or it was tinned meat. However, the pasta was perfectly cooked, and the rose sauce was light and creamy. The addition of samphire added a touch of bite, enhancing the overall flavour profile of the dish.
Pudding
We were all full to the brim. However, Lauren insisted on having a Tiramisu, as she’d had it there before and had wanted to try it again. It is a classic Italian dessert with layers of delicate mascarpone cream, a coffee-soaked sponge, and a dusting of cocoa. It provided the perfect sweet ending to eating at Cicchetti in Radyr.

A Memorable Dining Experience at Cicchetti Restaurant Radyr
The ambience at Cicchetti in Radyr is both inviting and relaxed. The restaurant does get mixed reviews online. Whilst I didn’t personally have the best main dish, the food was well-presented, hot and cooked to order – and they generously included our special requests. I’d happily eat here again.
