Sultan Cardiff Reviews
During my recent visit to The Sultan Cardiff, I had the pleasure of savouring two of their signature breakfast dishes: the Mediterranean Breakfast and the Special Menemen. Here’s my personal take on these mouthwatering delights, which I enjoyed with a steaming cup of aromatic Turkish tea.
The Mediterranean Breakfast
This hearty breakfast is the perfect picky plate. Each bite can have a different texture, flavour, or combination. It includes:

- Sucuk: Is a spicy Turkish sausage that adds a robust and smoky flavour to the plate. Perfectly cooked and not overly greasy, it complements the lighter elements beautifully.
- Peanut Butter, Jam, and Honey: This trio doesn’t need much description; the jam is rich and fruity, while the peanut butter and honey are lusciously smooth and ideal for drizzling over bread or cheese.
- Cucumber and Tomato: Fresh, crisp slices of cucumber and juicy tomatoes provide a refreshing bite, balancing the richness of the cheeses and sausage.
- Olives: Are you even in The Med if you’re not eating olives? The mix of briny olives adds a beautiful depth of texture and a touch of saltiness.
- Three Types of Cheese: I wish I’d asked what they were! Each had a distinct texture and flavour, and there was a mix of soft and hard cheese.
- Egg: You can choose between a poached or fried egg. We asked for an omelette-style egg, which was cooked perfectly.
- Bread: The breakfast is served with a generous selection of fresh bread, perfect for mopping up the yolk and spreads.
The Special Menemen
For those who prefer a warm, comforting dish, the Special Menemen is a must-try. This Turkish classic is elevated at The Sultan with the addition of cream cheese, mozzarella, and beef salami. The dish includes:

- Slow-Cooked Egg with Tomato, Peppers, and Onions: The base of the Menemen is a rich, savoury mix of tomatoes, peppers, and onions, slow-cooked to perfection. The eggs are gently folded into this mixture, creating a creamy, indulgent texture.
- Cream Cheese and Mozzarella: These cheeses melt into the dish, adding a creamy, gooey consistency that makes every bite irresistible.
- Beef Salami: Slices of beef salami are incorporated into the Menemen, infusing the dish with a slightly spicy, meaty flavour.
- Bread: A selection of breads is served with the dish. Its texture and bite are beautiful, and it’s ideal for scooping up the delicious mix. The sesame bagel was a particular favourite.
