Neighbourhood Kitchen in Riverside – the ever-changing hub of independent flavour slingers – has gone full Louisiana with its Seafood Boil Cardiff. I’m delighted to report it’s gloriously messy, deeply seasoned, and one hell of a good night out.

Seafood in Cardiff? Here’s Your New Obsession
You know it’s going to be a good time when you’re handed a bib before the food even hits the table. Not a delicate linen napkin or some posh napery – an unapologetically plastic, claw-themed bib. Because this isn’t some dainty dance with cutlery. This is a full-blown, hands-in, elbows-out, splash-zone experience, and I was absolutely here for it.

Seafood Boil Cardiff Menu
The Louisiana Crawfish Boil (£27 per person) is the star attraction, and rightfully so. It arrives not in dainty bowls or fussy platters but tipped out directly onto your newspaper-lined table. There’s a slight chaos to it – prawns, crawfish, spuds, sweetcorn and smoky sausage tumbling together in a buttery, lemon-laced, secret-spiced pool of joy.
It’s hot, not sweat-on-the-lip hot, but every now and then, a cheeky flick of spice lands on the back of your throat and gives you that satisfying little gasp. The crawfish? Let’s be honest – some of them are a bit of a faff to get into, and a few were more work than reward. But that’s the gamble, right? Crack, peel, and hope for a juicy payout. It’s messy, primal, and strangely addictive.
The prawns, though, were plump and generous, and the sausage brought just enough smoke and snap to offset all that buttery seafood. I also thoroughly enjoyed the sweetcorn! If you’re craving seafood in Cardiff with proper flavour, not just lemon and hope, this is it.
Finger-Lickin’ Add-Ons Worth the Elbow Room
We also dipped into a few extras – because what’s a boil without a side hustle?
- The Louisiana Catfish (£9) was a revelation. A nicely spiced fillet with a garlic butter sauce that clung to the fish in all the right places.
- Mac’ n’ Cheese (£8) came with a herb and Parmesan crust, hiding gooey, carb-loaded comfort beneath.
- Then there were the BBQ Cola Chicken Wings (£9) – sticky, sweet, and smoky with a surprisingly hefty amount of meat clinging to the bone. They were a hit across the table and vanished at alarming speed.
A Local Feast That Gets Stuck In
This is the sort of local night out you remember – not just because of the flavour, but because of the theatre of it all. The bibs, the gloves, the wipe-it-all-off carnage afterwards. It’s an immersive food experience, and the restaurant knows exactly what it’s doing.
Is it neat? No. Is it dainty? Absolutely not. But is it bloody fun and packed with punchy flavours? You bet. This isn’t just another night eating seafood in Cardiff – it’s an experience. A ritual. A proper cracking good time. My dad even said it was the hardest he’d worked for a meal in a long time!
Seafood Cardiff Just Got Serious
Whether you’re a seasoned seafood lover or a curious catfish newbie, this boil brings something bold and different to the Cardiff food scene. You’ll get stuck in, make a glorious mess, and probably still be picking butter out from under your nails the next day. Worth it.

Neighbourhood Canteen Cardiff is easily accessible by car, bike, and cycling along the Taff Trail, bus, or train. The restaurant is a mere 8-minute walk from Cardiff Central Train Station.
