Playing at the Wales Millennium Centre in the heart of Cardiff Bay, this raucous and riotous musical delivers a performance that’s as outrageous as it’s outstanding.

Book of Mormon Review
As long as you don’t mind religious stereotypes and ethnic profiling, and don’t take any of it seriously, this is the play for you!
To be honest, I didn’t know whether I wanted to see this musical. I was about 14 when South Park started, and I recall the hype among my classmates as they recited lines from the show in school. And, yes, I can do an excellent impression of Cartman. And – my personal opinion – I find the Mormon religion a bit culty – but I understand that this remains a point of contention. Regardless of this, it is something some people put their faith in, and is this something to be mocked? So, could I watch 2 hours and 20 minutes of smut and slander? Absolutely!
The Book of Mormon Cardiff 2025
Penned by the unholy trinity of Trey Parker, Matt Stone (of South Park fame) and Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, Frozen, Coco – yes, that guy), this all-singing, all-dancing Mormon musical follows two earnest young missionaries dispatched from Salt Lake City to a Ugandan village that’s… well, not quite ready for their “latter-day” message.
From the moment the curtain rises, it’s clear this isn’t your nan’s West End classic. No, this is musical theatre with a wink, a nudge, and a sledgehammer of satire. Think South Park but in tap shoes – and with full-blown Broadway belters. The cast throws themselves into every absurd moment with wild-eyed zeal, delivering vocals and comedy with divine precision. Every number is a showstopper, from the dazzling “Hello!” to the gleefully blasphemous “Hasa Diga Eebowai” — I’ll leave you to Google that one (at your own risk).
The direction by Casey Nicholaw and Parker is slick and sharp, and the choreography is full-throttle and gloriously irreverent. The set design, ranging from a shimmering celestial Salt Lake to a mud-hut mission outpost, shifts between gospel grandeur and gritty realism faster than you can say, Joseph Smith.
It’s no wonder The Book of Mormon has scooped every award going — Tony®, Olivier®, Grammy® — and broken box office records from New York to London, and now Cardiff. The satire is razor-sharp but never cruel, lampooning religious dogma, cultural clashes, and musical theatre tropes all in one gloriously bonkers package. You’ll laugh. You’ll gasp. You’ll probably clutch your pearls. But you’ll definitely have a good time.
In short, whether you’re a die-hard musical fan or just in it for the madness, this is one pilgrimage worth making. The Book of Mormon is truly a revelation that defies religious boundaries.

Bursting with energy, impeccable timing, and powerhouse vocals, the cast perfectly captures the musical’s chaotic spirit.
