You know that one trip you talk about forever? Egypt was ours. Packed with pyramids, heatwaves, unexpected detours, ancient wonders, and more girl-group inside jokes than we could count. Here’s the real talk from our week of wobbling through Egypt—sunburnt, slightly lost, but 100% loving it.

Jetlag jolts and Cairo chaos
We landed in Cairo at what felt like 4 a.m. (was it? Who knows). Sleep-deprived and instantly sweating. Note to self: 40°C hits different when you’re dragging pink suitcases and trying to find your driver.
The airport was… functional? We eventually met our guy (shoutout to Ahmed!) holding a crooked sign with a half-misspelled version of my name. Cue giggles. First tip: pre-book a transfer unless you want to play “spot the random dude who might be your ride.”
First dose of epic: the pyramids
Jetlagged but stubborn, we hit Giza that same day. The pyramids? Genuinely jaw-dropping. Like, you think you’ve seen them on Instagram, but nope—they’re way bigger IRL.
Also: camels are majestic but sassy. One tried to eat my scarf. Worth it for the group photo.
Extra LOL: We got chased by a guy trying to sell “authentic” papyrus that looked suspiciously like printer paper. Still bought two.
Cairo vibes: mango juice and market madness
After pyramids, we crashed at a rooftop café in downtown Cairo. Ordered mango juice. Nearly cried at how good it was. Why does Egypt do fruit better than anywhere else?
Later, we “wandered” through Khan el-Khalili market. Which means: got totally lost, tried to haggle (failed), bought gold-ish earrings we hope won’t turn green.
Nighttime Cairo was buzzing. We stumbled into a street concert and danced with strangers. 10/10 would wobble again.
Sleeper train: chaos, carbs and bonding
Next mission: getting to Aswan. We booked the overnight train (because budget, duh). Verdict: chaotic neutral. Think Hogwarts Express, but warmer and louder. Still, eating crackers in bunk beds and gossiping till 1 a.m. was a bonding moment we didn’t know we needed.
Pro tip: BYO snacks. Egyptian trains don’t exactly cater to gluten-free girlies.
Sunrise on the Nile: felucca dreams
Aswan greeted us with soft pink skies and calm vibes. We hopped on a felucca (aka traditional sailboat) for sunrise. Just us, the breeze, and a sailor named Mahmoud who made tea on a tiny stove while steering with his feet. Icon.
We floated for two hours, phones mostly off, just… being. It was a moment. Possibly the moment.
Temples, tuk-tuks and total meltdown
Temples in Aswan and Luxor? Incredible. Karnak was a fave—those columns are no joke. But: heat = ruthless. Midday meltdown happened. Someone (not naming names) laid down in the shade and refused to move.
Also: our tuk-tuk driver in Luxor decided he was our tour guide. Shouted facts over the engine noise. Not all of them were true. Still, five stars for enthusiasm.
Pool day and breakdown recovery
By day five, we’d reached peak tired. Took a full reset day at a hotel with a pool, AC, and free Wi-Fi. We ordered three kinds of hummus, swam in our clothes, and watched Egyptian TV dramas with the volume way up.
Highly recommend building in a “do-nothing” day if you’re on a girl’s trip. You’ll thank yourself.
Last-minute finds and Egypt exit drama
Back in Cairo for the final day: last-minute shopping, last-minute stress, and one dramatic suitcase explosion at the hotel. (We bought too many souvenirs. No regrets.)
The airport goodbye was chaotic—of course the bag weighed too much. Cue rearranging everything in the middle of the terminal while giggling and swearing under our breath.
But hey, we made it. Tired, dusty, and glowing.
The real takeaways
Egypt is wild in the best way. The sights are ancient, the travel moments are modern messes, and every day gives you a story. You’ll get sunburnt. You’ll get confused. You’ll laugh so hard you forget to take the picture.
If you want less chaos and more comfort (especially if it’s your first big trip), check out curated Egypt vacation packages. They handle the boring bits so you can focus on your squad and your SPF.
Either way: Go. Wobble your way through. Egypt is calling.
Quick girl group travel notes
- Bring electrolytes. The heat is savage.
- Have small bills for tipping. You’ll need them.
- Download Google Translate (Arabic-English). Trust.
- Don’t skip the mango juice.
- Say yes to feluccas. And no to camel selfies if you’re scared of big teeth.
We came, we wobbled, we conquered. Egypt: you were epic.
