Today, the inn seamlessly blends its storied past with modern comforts. From its chic décor to its warm, welcoming atmosphere, this isn’t just a place to dine – it’s an experience that will leave you intrigued and excited.
Fun fact: this old courthouse inn in St Aubin was even used as a filming location for the TV series Bergerac. This British crime drama television series aired from 1981 to 1991 on BBC1. Set on the island of Jersey, Detective Sergeant Jim Bergerac, a somewhat maverick investigator working for the fictional Bureau des Étrangers, a police department dealing with international crime and matters involving non-residents.
The show was hugely popular for its scenic shots of Jersey’s coastline, portrayal of the island’s unique culture, and mix of crime-solving and personal drama. The series helped put Jersey on the map as a travel destination, and many locations featured in the show are still visited by fans today.
Where we sat is a magnificent ship’s window; this was used during the filming of Bergerac and was known as The Royal Barge.

On a Sunday, the Old Courthouse restaurant becomes the go-to destination for one thing: The Great British Roast. As part of the Liberation Pubs Jersey group, the food here is all about showcasing local produce with a touch of flair, served throughout the year. The menu offers a variety that will cater to every palate, leaving you fully satisfied.
Several meats are on the court house menu. We chose the Sirloin of Hereford and Angus beef, cooked to perfection (medium-rare, just as it should be) and served with a side of horseradish sauce. They were very kind in bringing me some mince sauce. Yes, I know it should be with lamb, but I love it on all of my roast dinners, regardless of the choice of meat.
The beef was tender, juicy, and packed with flavour. The supporting cast? Crispy roast potatoes, a gloriously puffed Yorkshire pudding, and vibrant seasonal vegetables, all tied together with a rich red wine gravy. Heaven on a plate.
For a little extra indulgence, we ordered the Cauliflower cheese with thyme crumb. It was creamy, cheesy, and perfectly herbed – honestly, we could have had a second helping.
For a non-roast option, the beef burger is a winner. Stacked with streaky bacon, smoked Cheddar, and crunchy pickles, it’s a satisfying choice for anyone craving comfort food. The skin-on fries on the side were crispy and golden, making this dish a worthy rival to the roast.
If you visit with children, they can have a smaller roast or something else on the kid’s menu.
