Grand Jersey Hotel Breakfast Review
Breakfast at The Grand Hotel in Saint Helier was a unique experience! Unlike typical buffet breakfasts, this one was far from basic. The queuing and waiting aspect was eliminated, and there was no need to second-guess the freshness of the hot food. The worry about other guests not using utensils was unnecessary, as everything was fresh, cooked perfectly, and there was an amazing selection.
Breakfast in Jersey Channel Islands
The modern dining room of the Handpicked Hotels Jersey is a bright and relaxing space. It is bathed in soft morning light filtering through floor-to-ceiling windows, offering panoramic views of Elizabeth Castle and the tranquil sea beyond. The décor strikes a perfect balance between contemporary elegance and cosy comfort, with plush seating arrangements and gleaming silverware adding a splash of colour to the serene setting.
Upon entering the Grand Jersey Hotel, the staff’s genuine warmth and welcoming smiles immediately put you at ease. Their professionalism is evident as they guide you to your table, ensuring your comfort. The service is attentive, yet never intrusive, making you feel like a valued guest from the moment you arrive.

Now, let’s get to the heart of the matter – the breakfast itself. Your hot drinks order is taken when you sit. Coffees are brought over in a cafetière, and the teas are loose leaf – adding to the opulence. You are then invited to help yourself to the buffet, and you can order off the breakfast menu.
The Grand Hotel’s breakfast buffet is a food lover’s paradise, offering options to cater to every palate and dietary preference. Whether you’re a fan of hearty English breakfasts or prefer the delicate flavours of a continental spread, you’ll find your perfect match here.
Continental Selection
For those who lean towards a lighter, more European start to the day, the continental spread is a cornucopia of delights. Freshly baked croissants, pain au chocolat, muffins, and a variety of artisan breads and pastries are laid out in a tantalising display. Accompany these with a selection of jams, marmalades, and honey that range from classic to local – including Jersey black butter. Alongside this, there are meats, cheese, and chutneys.
Breakfast Bowls
Just like at home, there’s a selection of cereals. These are individually boxed and include Cornflakes, Special K, Frosties, Coco Pops, granola and muesli – including gluten-free. There’s also porridge, made with coconut milk and local honey, which you can order off the menu.
Healthy Choices
If you’re inclined towards a healthier start, fear not! The Grand Hotel has got you covered. Fresh fruit platters bursting with colour and flavour, an assortment of yoghurts (including dairy-free options), and a selection of nuts and seeds make for a wholesome start. The smoothie bar is a particular highlight, offering freshly blended concoctions that are as delicious as they are energising.
Hot Buffet
The hot buffet is full of classic English breakfast items: golden scrambled eggs and fried eggs, their own succulent Cumberland sausages, crisp bacon, juicy grilled tomatoes, and earthy mushrooms sautéed to perfection. There’s also black pudding for the traditionalists, along with baked beans and hash browns that add a comforting, familiar touch.
Cooked-to-Order Delights
While the buffet is impressive, the breakfast menu really shines with its cooked-to-order options. In addition to the items listed, you can ask the chef to whip up omelettes or eggs cooked the way you want.
From avocado on toast with a poached egg to eggs benedict and smoked salmon, there really is something for every taste. The team also offers a breakfast dish of the day. While I was there, it was kippers and kedgeree.
If I had stayed longer, I would have loved to have tried breakfast charcuterie with smoked fish, local cheese, olives, pickles and breads, or some of the sweeter options like caramelised maple syrup banana waffles or fruity cinnamon French toast.
Beverage Heaven
No breakfast is complete without the perfect beverage, and the Grand Hotel excels in this department, too. The coffee is superb—rich, aromatic, and just what you need to kickstart your morning. Speciality teas are also available, from classic English Breakfast to fragrant Earl Grey and soothing herbal blends. Freshly squeezed juices, including orange, apple, cranberry, and grapefruit, provide a burst of vitality.
But you can make it truly special by adding a glass of champagne or a Bloody Mary breakfast cocktail.

What Time is Breakfast?
Breakfast is served between 7am and 10am on weekdays and between 7.30am and 10.30am on weekends and bank holidays. Room service is also an option if you’re staying in the hotel.
Our flight was at 9am, so we did not have enough time to eat in the dining room before checking out. However, the night before, I was able to complete the breakfast card in our bedroom, and on the advice of the front-of-house team, we wrote takeaway. It meant we could tuck into bacon and sausage rolls, fruit and yoghurt, and pastries at the airport while waiting for the flight.
