Bryn Meadows

Blas Restaurant at Bryn Meadows is a beautiful place to enjoy afternoon tea. It looks over a golf course and has spectacular views of the Valleys, including a glimpse of Pen y Fan. The food selection includes sandwiches, macaroons, cupcakes and other sweet treats, homemade scones, and Welsh cakes. With unlimited servings of tea or filter coffee. Vegan and gluten-free are also available. Make sure you book in advance, as it is very popular here.

Llechwen Hall

The afternoon tea at Llechwen Hall serves what you would expect, sandwiches, cream cakes and traditional Welsh cakes. The charming restaurant is located in a stunning white slate building, a popular hotel and wedding venue. In the summer months, you can even dine on the terrace and enjoy the surrounding countryside views.

Llanfabon, CF37 4HP. Monday to Saturday 13:00 to 17:00 and Sunday 16:00 to 18:00. £15 per person.

Caerphilly Castle Afternoon Tea

At the moment, Caerphilly Castle is not serving afternoon tea.

The Old Library

Found next to Morgan Jones Park is The Old Library. The afternoon teas need to be booked a minimum of 48 hours in advance. The stands will be filled with cakes, scones and cakes. Simply delicious!

The Deli

With an array of sandwiches, cakes and unlimited tea or coffee, The Deli is a top spot for afternoon tea in Caerphilly. The small café and bar only can sit 20 people so be organised and book in advance. However, you can also order the tea to takeaway, as well as food hampers and picnic baskets.

Casa Mia

A traditional afternoon tea is available at Casa Mia. The Mediterranean-themed restaurant has a prime position looking across Caerphilly Castle. The freshly made selection consists of sandwiches, Welsh cakes, scones with clotted cream and luxury miniature cakes. It is served with tea or coffee.

The Twyn, Caerphilly, CF83 1JL. Monday to Friday, 12:00 to 15:00 for £17.95 per person and Saturday and Sunday, 12:00 to 16:30. £18.95 per person.

Aviary

The Bistro at Aviary serves everything from breakfast to tapas, including afternoon tea. The spread includes cold sandwiches, savoury snacks, fresh scones and cakes.

42 Cardiff Road, Caerphilly, CF83 1JQ. Monday to Sunday, 13:00 to 16:00 for £16.95 per person.

Tyfu Cafe

The social enterprise café serves afternoon tea by prior arrangement. At Tyfu Cafe, there’s a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches, cakes, cookies, scones and unlimited tea or coffee.

97 Cardiff Road, Caerphilly, CF83 1JQ. Wednesday afternoons. £9 per person, or £16 for two people. 

Ten Degrees

The restaurant, bar and late-night venue is always popular. Ten Degrees serve small plates, lunch, Sunday lunch and afternoon tea. The menu includes luxury savoury sandwiches such as chargrilled chicken, basil and aioli, and smoked salmon, beetroot, and cream cheese. The treat selection includes scones, carrot cake, chocolate brownie and lemon cheesecake. 

13 Market Street, Caerphilly, CF83 1NX. To book, please give 48 hours’ notice. Served Wednesday to Saturday, 12:00 to 16:00. £19 per person, £24 with Prosecco. 

Morrisons Caerphilly

Available daily in the Morrisons Café, you can order an afternoon tea for two. It is a selection of sandwiches, cakes and fruit scones served with clotted cream and jam, served with Yorkshire tea.

Y Fan Caerphilly Afternoon Tea | Van Mansion Caerphilly Afternoon Tea

Y Fan (known locally as Van Morrison) is a Grade II listed Tudor mansion house which has been substantially restored. Dig into a selection of sandwiches, a chocolate mousse or lemon posset, cakes which could include sticky ginger cake, apple cake, orange polenta cake or carrot cake, all washed down with tea, coffee or fruit juice. Make sure you pre-request any gluten-free and vegan options.

Gwern y Domen Farm Lane, Caerphilly, CF83 3RN. Available Wednesday to Sunday, 12:30 to 16:00. £21 per person.

Angel Bar & Grill

At Angel Bar & Grill, you get sandwiches, scones and homemade cakes with unlimited tea, coffee or squash when you have afternoon tea. Previous teas have also been themed, such as Be Our Guest Afternoon Tea, loosely based on Beauty and the Beast.

Gellihaf House

Gellihaf House no longer offers afternoon tea.

Junction Inn

Junction Inn is a family-run pub, which has recently been fully refurbished, complete with a luxurious lounge. The sandwiches include tuna mayonnaise, smoked salmon and ham and egg. These are served with crisps, trifle, lemonade scones with clotted cream and a selection of cakes. You can even upgrade to bottomless Prosecco for 90 minutes.

Kings Hill, Hengoed, CF82 7RZ. Friday and Saturday 12:00 to 15:00. £14.95 per person. £24.95 for bottomless.

Big Mo’s Cake Shop on the Corner

Previously called Gaffaccinos, the modern Big Mo’s Cake Shop makes filled rolls to order and produces amazing homemade cakes. It offers afternoon tea for takeaway, which must be pre-ordered. The boxes include sandwiches, crisps, scones and cakes.

Miss Bee’s Pantry

The cute little coffee shop, Miss Bee’s Pantry, has become renowned for serving exquisite afternoon teas. The menu is seasonal, but previous spreads have included finger sandwiches, a hot chocolate stirrer, a homemade sausage roll, cheese, biscuits and grapes, a scone with clotted cream and jam and a chocolate brownie. Vegetarian, gluten-free and children’s versions are also available. You can sit in or takeaway.

Rae’s Grace Cakes

You can enjoy an afternoon tea in Rae’s Grace Cakes tea rooms. It includes your choice of sandwiches, scone with jam and cream, cupcakes and fruit. Or, buy one to take away.

3 Central Buildings, Trethomas, Caerphilly, CF83 8BU. £20 for two people. 

Llancaiach Fawr Manor

Dine in the lounge, conservatory or during the summer months in the gardens with views of the countryside. There are two-afternoon tea options at Llancaiach Fawr. The traditional spread includes assorted sandwiches, a fruit scone with clotted cream and jam, quiche, mini cakes like trifle, Victoria sponge, cherry bakewell and tea or coffee. The deluxe includes a glass of Pimms. There are vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

Gelligaer Road, Nelson, CF46 6ER. Wednesday to Sunday, 12:30 to 15:30. £21.50 per person or £25.50 for the deluxe version.

Winding House

The Winding House serve an afternoon tea to eat in or takeaway. The coffee shop serves hot and cold drinks, milkshakes, and soft drinks throughout the day. Cakes are from Handmade Cake Co. The museum has engaging exhibits on local history and heritage and hands-on activities.

Cross Street, New Tredegar, NP24 6EG. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required. £15.50 per person.

Getting around Caerphilly is easy

The Rhymney line runs from Cardiff Central through Caerphilly. The train station in Caerphilly town centre is a short walk to the shops, bars and restaurants as well as Caerphilly Castle. Other stops include Aber, Energlyn and Churchill Park, Llanbradach, Ystrad Mynach, Hengoed, Pengam, Gilfach Fargoed, Bargoed, Brithdir, Tir-Phil, Pontlottyn and Rhymney.

Transport for Wales, who run the trains, has made it even easier to get around. Multiflex has just been introduced, which gives you 12 journeys for the same price as 5 returns. And, who doesn’t want to save money to spend on afternoon tea?

Things to do in Caerphilly

You will be surprised by some of the unique things to do and places you can explore in Caerphilly. The landscape gives clues to the coal mines that once covered The Valleys of South Wales. Many of these have been turned into nature reserves, outdoor activity centres or visitor attractions. 

Stay the Night

You’ll want to stay nearby with plenty to see and do in Caerphilly. The town is just 7 miles from Cardiff in South Wales. Of course, you can stay in a hotel, or there are camping and glamping sites, caravan parks, guest houses, inns, homestays and bed and breakfasts throughout the borough.
