The Prince’s
The afternoon tea at Prince’s, Pontypridd’s most famous cafe, is a real surprise. A lovely setting, alongside sandwiches, cakes and fresh and tasty food. Upgrades are available to include miniature savouries and a glass of Prosecco.

Penuel Cafe
Penuel Cafe is brand new to Pontypridd Market and opened after the pandemic. Daily it serves traditional breakfast and lunch dishes. Afternoon tea is also on the menu.
The Market Quarter, Market Street, CF37 2ST. Monday to Saturday, 12:00 to 16:00. £14.95 per person or £16.95 with a bottle of Prosecco.
Bradley’s Coffee Shop
Locals know Bradleys Coffee Shop as a place to unwind. The afternoon tea selection is served with crustless white and malted bloomer bread with various fillings, a section of cakes which could include a maple and pecan slice, lemon swirl, macarons and scones with clotted cream. Plus, unlimited tea and coffee.
Llys Cadwyn, Taff Street, CF37 4TH. Daily 12:00 to 16:00. £19.50 per person. £8 per child.
Rhi’s Café
The team at Rhi’s Cafe produce afternoon tea platters for you to order and takeaway. Included in the selection are sandwiches, savoury nibbles, fruit and cakes. You can even get cheesecake eggs with different flavours and toppings at Easter.
26-27 Taff Street, CF37 4TT. £18 per platter, ideal for two people.
Dotty’s Place
Don’t judge a book by its cover. Dotty’s Place is a small café converted from the back room of a pub. The afternoon tea includes a selection of sandwiches, scones with clotted cream, a cupcake, Welsh cake and a mix of sweet bakes. Plus, unlimited tea and coffee.
Central Square, Trallwn, CF37 4PN. Tuesday to Saturday 12:00 to 16:00. Two people for £20. £5 per child.
Heritage Park Hotel
The recently refurbished Heritage Hotel Pontypridd is in beautiful surroundings. It has everything you’ll want from a luxury country house. The Loft Restaurant is also attached to the hotel, serving afternoon tea.
Coedcare Road, CF37 2NP. Monday to Sunday, 12:00 to 16:00. Traditional is £14.50 per person, and Sparkling is £16.50 per person.
Llechwen Hall Afternoon Tea
The afternoon tea at Llechwen Hall serves what you would expect, sandwiches, cream cakes and traditional Welsh cakes. The charming restaurant is located in a stunning white slate building, a popular hotel and wedding venue. In the summer months, you can even dine on the terrace and enjoy the surrounding countryside views.
Llanfabon, CF37 4HP. Monday to Saturday, 13:00 to 17:00 and Sunday, 16:00 to 18:00. £15 per person.

This place is well known for its outstanding service and friendly staff always ready to help you. The afternoon teas at Cafe Rana are great value, fresh and delicious. Eat in or takeaway.

Lanelay Hall Hotel and Spa
Offering elegance and comfort, Lanelay Hall Hotel and Spa is a 19th Century Georgian manor house dating back to 1821. It was extensively renovated in 2017, becoming the beautiful hotel it is today. Many rooms are named after past residents and the restaurant after Sir Christopher Cole. One of the dining experiences is the indulgent afternoon tea. Vegan and gluten-free options are also available.
Lanelay Lane, Talbot Green, CF72 9LA. Monday to Saturday between 13:00 and 16:00. Traditional £27 per person, Sparkling £32 per person.
Getting to Pontypridd is easy
Transport for Wales has made it even easier to get around. Trains run through Cardiff Central, about 25 minutes away, from Bridgend and Barry Island. The other line goes on to Merthyr Tydfil, Aberdare and Treherbert. Multiflex has just been introduced, which gives you 12 journeys for the same price as 5 returns. Things to do in Pontypridd
You will be surprised by some of the unique things to do in Pontypridd. The landscape gives clues to the coal mines that once covered The Valleys of South Wales. Many of these have been turned into nature reserves, outdoor activity centres or visitor attractions.
