Nestled in the heart of the Brecon Beacons, the Tai’r Bull Inn is a cosy country pub that’s big on flavour, charm, and warm Welsh hospitality. Located along the A470 in Libanus, it’s the kind of place you might pass dozens of times without stopping – until one day you do, and wonder why you hadn’t pulled in sooner. With an all-day menu, dog-friendly ethos, Tai’r Bull Brecon is everything you want from countryside dining: hearty portions, scenic views, and a proper pub welcome.

Tai’r Bull Inn Review
After a wander along the canals and through the charming streets of Brecon, we were ready for a good feed. We had planned to head to Hills Brecon for a late lunch, but sadly, they couldn’t squeeze us in. Undeterred (and quite hungry), we turned to a familiar roadside favourite: the Tai’r Bull Inn, on the A470 in Libanus.

I’ve driven past the Tai’r Bull Brecon more times than I can count – on the way to visit gran in North Wales, on staycations further into the wilds of Wales, or popping up to Rhayader to visit friends. But this time, curiosity (and hunger) got the better of us. It was around 3.30pm – one of those awkward in-between meal times – but the gods of pub grub were smiling. They serve an all-day menu. And folks, the food was lush.
What does Tai’r Bull mean?
Let’s get this one out of the way first – Tai’r Bull translates to House of the Bull in Welsh. Quite fitting, really, because the portions are beastly (in the best possible way), and the flavours certainly pack a punch.
Tai’r Bull Menu
My partner had the beef burger – Chef’s own minced beef patty (which was juicy and perfectly seasoned), stacked with crispy bacon, melty cheese, and wedged in a proper burger bun. The gluten-free onion rings were a standout: golden, crunchy, and definitely not an afterthought. Add to that Richie’s coleslaw, homemade double-cooked chips (which I’m still dreaming about), and a decision to double up the burger because, well, why not?

I went for the steak and onion sandwich from the Lite Bites menu, which, frankly, needs renaming. There was nothing light about it. Thick slices of steak, cooked medium with that just-right blush of pink, piled high and dripping with savoury goodness. It came with a beautifully dressed salad (balsamic glaze is always a win), Richie’s coleslaw again, and those same divine chips.

Is Tai’r Bull Country Inn Dog Friendly?
Dog lovers, rejoice! If you’re on the hunt for dog friendly pubs in the Brecon Beacons, Tai’r Bull Inn is a standout. We had our fluffy crew with us – Ivan and girlfriend Livi (who was staying with us for the weekend) – were treated like royalty. Water bowls appeared without being asked (and were topped up). To our delight, complimentary sausages arrived so the pups could dine alongside us.
Even better, on Sundays, they can enjoy a proper roast and a doggy ice cream. Yes, really. A roast dinner for dogs.

Tai’r Bull Inn Four In A Bed Fame
Reality TV fans might get a flicker of déjà vu here – yes, the Tai’r Bull Inn featured on ‘Four In A Bed’, a popular British reality show where B&B owners compete to be crowned the best. It was infamous as two guests refused to stay the night, claiming the room smelled, and only paid £6.20 – at the time, minimum wage for an hour to pay for a cleaner.
However, reviews don’t match this. Most who stay the night give it 5 stars, saying it has a homely feel, is cosy, offers family-run hospitality, and serves lovely breakfasts. Making it a top‑notch choice for an overnight stay in the Brecon Beacons.

Things To Do in the Brecon Beacons
The Brecon Beacons National Park is a playground for adventurers, nature lovers, and foodies alike. Whether you’re climbing Pen y Fan, the highest peak in South Wales, or strolling along the scenic Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, the landscapes here are nothing short of breathtaking.
You can explore cascading waterfalls like those at Four Falls Trail, hop aboard a heritage railway, or delve into local history at Brecon Cathedral and the Regimental Museum of the Royal Welsh. There’s something magical about this part of Wales – think wild ponies, dark skies perfect for stargazing, cosy market towns like Brecon and Crickhowell, and plenty of welcoming pubs (like the Tai’r Bull, of course) to refuel in between.
