The quick quiz takes about a minute to answer, and it’s all about your dog. Simple things like your dog’s breed, weight, sex, age, whether they are neutered and the amount of exercise they get. It also asks what type of food you’d prefer your dog to have.
You’ll have to do the quiz separately if you have several dogs. Also, if your dog is over 16kg, there are no options available at the moment.
Ivan loves wet food; however, the vet believes he picked up a virus as a puppy while living on Bosnia’s streets. So, he occasionally has blood in his poop. I’ve found including dry food in his meals has significantly reduced that. He’s also not a big treat lover – I know, unheard of, right? I always give him one after our daily walk. Sometimes he eats it; sometimes he doesn’t. He always eats treats when we take him to one of the dog-friendly pubs in Cardiff, though!
Anyway, the quiz said the Caboodle Blue Stack was ideal for us. It includes 300g of wet food, 100g of dry food, 10g of treats and a chew per day.
What did we get when it arrived?
After completing the quiz, the website is straightforward to navigate. The options include dog food delivered monthly, bi-weekly, weekly or as a one-off. You can change, pause or cancel the subscription at any time. From ordering to delivery, the process was seamless. The dog food box is delivered to your home, free of charge, in a few days.
I love the packaging and that the boxes are labelled by day. Of course, it’s not necessary, but fun nonetheless. There are different flavours every day; Chicken Stew and Chunky Vegetables, Salmon and Brown Rice, Sausage Hotpot with Sweet Potato, Duck Casserole, Friday Fish Supper, Turkey Goulash and a Sunday Roast.
The snacks were varied too, with love heart-shaped treats, immune-boosting duck mini bones, fishy tidbits and sleepy Sunday snacks. Plus, turkey and superfood, rabbit and berries and venison and pomegranate chews – to name only a few.
Environmentally conscious, and don’t greenwash this
Caboodle’s packaging is 99% recyclable, and they’re working on that 1%. Currently, the film on the wet food that keeps it fresh is the last piece of the puzzle for them to eliminate. They’ve set a target of the end of 2023 for this to be done. All the food is made in the UK and Europe, with a fully traceable journey from producer to Caboodle. They also use biodegradable cardboard, compostable labels and recyclable trays.
My thoughts: Will I be buying Caboodle again?
I absolutely love the concept and experience. It was so easy to have all the wet and dry food and the treats for the day. Ivan enjoyed the food; he ate every last bite. However, it is a subscription service that is out of my budget. I hate saying that because, genuinely, it’s great.
Our box is £31 per week. That’s £124 a month. Currently, I spend around £50 a month on Ivan’s food which I purchase from various pet brands at Pets at Home. Could it be better quality? Yes, of course, but with our current finances, this isn’t possible. My monthly cost also includes extras like fresh meat, tins of sardines, and any treats when out and about. Such as dog ice cream and puppuccinos.
However, this could be an ideal one-off purchase if you are travelling or going on a staycation. The daily boxes are compact, labelled, and easy to store and carry. Instead of taking lots of different containers of food, dry food bags and treats, this would be the perfect solution.

Did you know dogs are allowed on trains?
Getting around Cardiff has never been easier. Transport for Wales allows a maximum of two dogs per passenger on the train, free of charge.
