Play games online – Solitaire.org

Working from home and having a never-ending to-list of chores can keep your mind in overdrive. How do we focus on the task at hand without being distracted? I’ve found playing cards and mind games online improves my concentration.

Can playing games help refocus your mind?

Sometimes, I feel overwhelmed by the number of things I need to do in a day and figuring out which order to do them in. Do I have enough time? How long are they going to take me? Are there enough hours in the day? Cleaning the home, laundry, cooking the meals, walking the dog, and working from home quickly stacks up. (I’m aware I sound like a 50’s housewife, but it’s my reality!) I just need 5-minutes to re-organise my thoughts.

We’re told to take time out for our mental health and do an activity that can help us calm our minds and focus on what is essential. In passing, a friend mentioned they had powered up an old computer and nostalgically been played solitaire and minesweeper. It made me want to play them again too.

Would this work for me?

Simultaneously, I read an article that said video games can improve your mood along with your memory. According to the study research by experts, playing games can enhance your visual skills and attention. I can easily be distracted and thought I’d try it to see if I could improve my focus.

I’ve never really been a gamer. However, a short game that is easy to play is what’s going to keep me interested. I enjoyed playing Paperboy on the school computer, which was basically “cycling” down the street and throwing the paper onto their doorstep. At home, I played Street Fighter with my brother or Sonic the Hedgehog. Occasionally completing a few levels on Theme Hospital. On my phone, of course, I played Snake 2.

But, they all required too much dedication.

If you want to play cards, there’s Klondike, a simple game of solitaire as well as Spider Solitaire. There’s also Pyramid, Tripeaks, and Freecell. The graphics are simple, but they don’t need to be jazzy.

One of the games I love is Letter Scramble. Not only is it helping my spelling, having to create words on the spot as quickly as possible is a brilliant challenge. There’s even a daily crossword, which you can even print out if you find it easier to do with a pen and paper.

Secret Garden is also fun. Under a time restriction, you have to find the hidden objects within the game. You get stars depending on how quickly you complete the puzzle. There are 10 levels, and you have to complete the level before moving on to the next.

Why should you play games online?

All of these games are short and completely free to play. The site is even advert free, so you won’t be interrupted or distracted by the pop-ups. I’ve only mentioned a few of the games at your disposal. If you’re looking for a 5-minute distraction, look no further.
