Porthpean Beach is perfect for a family day out, just a short distance from the town centre. The sandy beach is surrounded by cliffs, offering beautiful views and a sense of seclusion. Its sandy shores and calm waters make it ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. Kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, windsurfing, and snorkelling are popular here. It’s also home to Porthpean Sailing Club, which has a slipway with easy access to the water.
Facilities: Public toilets and a small cafรฉ are nearby, and parking is available a short walk from the beach.

Carlyon Bay
Carlyon Bay St Austell is a stunning stretch of sand, perfect for a day out. The westerly end is known as Crinnish Beach, and it is the most accessible and popular. The stretch of sand is almost two miles long. The South West Coast Path runs along the cliff top.
It’s popular for early morning wild swimming sessions, but check the tide times before you go.

Take advantage of the opportunity to take a ferry across the river to Polruan for stunning views and coastal walks. The Fowey Polruan Ferry runs every day of the year, apart from Christmas Day and departs from each side every 10-15 minutes. It’s also dog-friendly.
