Among the plethora of pubs in Abergavenny town centre, The Victoria stands out for its unique charm. As a food enthusiast, I’m drawn to independents that craft their dishes from local produce. During my stay in Abergavenny, The Victoria menu caught my eye, promising a delightful array of light bites, mains, and sides that would cater to everyone in our party.
The Victoria Abergavenny Reviews
First impressions are crucial, and The Victoria certainly knows how to make you feel at home. The restaurant’s warm and inviting ambience sets the perfect stage for a memorable dining experience. With a variety of beverages to choose from, including lagers, beer, cider, wine, cocktails, and soft drinks, The Victoria Abergavenny Menu is ready to cater to your preferences.
In the interest of balance, it took nearly an hour from ordering to the food arriving. The restaurant had a handful of other tables, but it was by no means busy. This was no issue for me as we were there for a relaxing evening.
Chicken & Chorizo Sandwich
Let me introduce you to a sandwich that’s not just any sandwich; it’s a flavour-packed powerhouse that promises to turn any meal into a fiesta. The combination of poached chicken, juicy chorizo, and pesto mayonnaise (which was kindly changed to plain mayonnaise for me due to my nut allergy) with peppery rocket, all sandwiched between thick, soft doorstep white bread, was nothing short of magic.
You can choose between homemade chips or a side salad. I requested the salad, but it came with chips. It’s not the end of the world. It’s because I also added a side of dirty hog fries loaded with shredded pork and cheese. These were insane!
I have a huge appetite, but I could only manage to complete the chips and one sandwich. Luckily, the restaurant has takeaway boxes, so I could take it home to enjoy later.
The Mixed Grill
This dish is a carnivore’s dream; I’m not exaggerating. Imagine a plate laden with a half rack of ribs, a juicy 10oz gammon, a tender 5oz rump steak, a succulent hog roast, a perfectly grilled chicken skewer, a flavour-packed lamb kofta, a hearty pork sausage, and to top it all off, a fried egg. Oh, and did I mention the homemade chips? Because they’re the golden, crispy cherry on this meaty sundae. I watched my 20-stone, always-hungry boyfriend struggle to finish this dish!
The Mediterranean Flatbread
When the Mediterranean Flatbread made its grand entrance, it was a sight to behold. Thin and crispy, it was a colourful canvas of fresh, vibrant ingredients. The plate was packed with kalamata olives, cream cheese stuffed bell peppers, artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, chimichurri, rocket, spiced chickpeas, and pickled red onions. Each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and flavours.

The Victoria Abergavenny Opening Times
The pub is closed Monday and Tuesday but open on Wednesday from 4pm until 11pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 11pm and Sunday from 11am to 9pm.
Food is served Wednesday between 4pm and 9pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 12pm and 4pm and 6pm and 9pm, and Sunday between 12pm and 4pm.
