But the walk isn’t just about the castle. This site is part of the Dinefwr Park and is renowned for its medieval deer park, ancient woodlands, and diverse wildlife.
Dinefwr Park is over 800 acres of parkland, meadows, and woodland. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a National Nature Reserve.
For 3 miles, the circular walk takes you past the National Trust’s Newton House through castle woods. You’ll also cross open parkland filled with grazing deer and sheep. It’s a chance to immerse yourself in centuries-old landscapes and enjoy the tranquillity of one of Wales’ most picturesque spots.

The walk, while uphill, is relatively easy and well-suited for most fitness levels. With plenty of benches along the way, it’s a friendly site for families and walkers to reach the castle ruins. However, it’s important to note that the walk is unsuitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.
Dinefwr Castle Walk Parking
Convenience is key at the Dinefwr Castle Walk. With a car park near the welcome centre, you’ll have easy access to the starting point of the walk. For those coming from Llandeilo, it’s just a short drive or cycle away. You could even extend your day by walking from the town itself. This ease of access makes it a perfect choice for families and nature lovers.
The car park costs £5 per car, or it is free for CADW members and National Trust members.
National Trust Membership
With your membership, you can visit over 500 houses, gardens, parks and castles in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The National Trust membership includes:

- Essential companion card where you can bring up to two carers if you have a disability. These can be different people; the card is in your name.

- The majority of National Trust sites are dog-friendly. Going inside the buildings can be tricky, as dogs can’t enter them. However, you can take turns if you go as a couple or a group.

- If you are going for history, you may have to do your own research.

Dinefwr Park Prices
The car parking fee includes entry to the Dinefwr Park estate, which includes access to the grounds and the medieval deer park. However, the National Trust manages entry to Newton House. Prices are per person, starting at £10 for adults. National Trust members enjoy free entry.
What to Expect on the Dinefwr Castle Walk
Newton House
Begin your journey at the grand Newton House, a 17th-century mansion that serves as the heart of the estate. Here, you’ll find exhibitions, a café, and a shop – a perfect spot to start or end your visit.
The house is also dog-friendly. Dogs are welcome on the ground floor and basement level. However, if you’d like to look at the exhibitions upstairs, you may need to take turns if you aren’t visiting solo.
Castle Woods
