Common Business Challenges (And How To Navigate Through Them)

If you’re focusing on steering your business toward success, being aware of the various challenges you may encounter along the way can prove to be incredibly beneficial.

With that in mind, here are some common business challenges and the steps that you can take to navigate your way around them!

Poor cash flow. Studies suggest that 82% of businesses fail due to cash flow problems, whether this is caused by poor account management or delayed payments from clients. As such, it’s something that you need to work to prevent within your own business, especially when you are first starting out and have less money to play around with.

For example, you should be sure that your invoices make clear that you’ll expect payment within a specific time frame (usually two weeks) before further action is taken, such as adding interest. Not only does this incentivise prompt payment from your customers, but it can also help you to improve your small business’s finances. In some cases, you may want to request a partial payment upfront to provide you with additional security and protection.

Dealing with online restrictions. Most businesses use social media as a way to increase their sales. However, there are restrictions in place that ban the direct sale of specific products, such as CBD, via social media, which means that many business owners operating in this sector find it difficult to build a name for themselves.

However, you can still set about marketing CBD products on social media, using it as a platform to raise brand awareness and connect with your audience as opposed to treating it as a sales funnel. Be sure to familarize yourself with each platform’s guidelines and regulations ahead of time to ensure your posts will not be taken down.

Burnout. Many small business owners (and their employees) deal with burnout on a regular basis. This is because smaller teams require everyone to get stuck in and take on as much work as possible. While to begin with, this may seem like a great idea; it’s not sustainable in the long term. Furthermore, it often means that employees are left grappling with tasks that they have no experience handling beforehand. This means that productivity and efficiency rates drop while the work they were actually hired to carry out gets neglected in favor of other time-consuming tasks.

There are many steps that you can take as a business owner to prevent burnout. This includes:

  • Hiring additional employees when necessary, such as when the demand for your product grows, or specific tasks must be carried out
  • Outsourcing when jobs fall outside of your team’s skillet
  • Encouraging your team to develop a healthy work-life balance and leading by example
  • Using time-saving tools and technology to automate specific tasks

While the above list is by no means expansive, these are some of the most common challenges that modern businesses encounter on a daily basis. However, by being aware of them, you can put the necessary plans in place to protect yourself and minimise the impact they have on your success.
