How to stop getting bitten at night when camping

Ad | The summer months with longer days, warmer weather and more opportunity to get away are always welcome. We go on a staycation, caravan holidays and camping. However, mosquitos, midges and insect bites are not welcome. They give us unsightly red, swollen and itchy skin – the most irritating downsides to travel. So, how do we stop getting bitten at night?

Do you get bitten on a camping trip? I do! I get midge bites and tick bites sitting in the garden, walking Ivan the Irresistible in the evening and even when sleeping. When camping, I do my best to avoid insect bites. But, when you’re trying to pack light, who has room for insect repellent, a mosquito net and citronella candles?

How to prevent mosquito bites while sleeping

So how do you protect yourself? The bugs and insects even manage to get us in our tent and sleeping bags. Luckily, I’ve found the answer to how to prevent mosquito bites without repellent. There is a natural way to keep the bugs away when camping; We Drifters anti-insect camping pyjamas.

The unisex sleepwear comes in sizes XS to XXL. Even though the pyjama pants are full length and the top has full sleeves, they are lightweight. They can be worn even if the weather is warm. The quality is outstanding. I thought they were cotton, but they are actually bamboo pyjamas.

The fabric is infused with a treatment. There’s even an odour-resistant technology, meaning they don’t have to be washed as often. You could wear them as a base layer in cold weather or as beautiful loungewear at home.

Camping pyjamas for adults

As I mentioned, I can’t go a summer without attracting insects. Could the camping pjs really be bug-proof? Well, I put them to the test on a recent camping holiday. Firstly, they feel great against your skin. The material is soft and silky. Sitting around the campfire at the end of the summer’s day, I was cosy, comfortable and cool. I didn’t look like I was sitting in my pj’s.

Even though the pyjamas are plain, a charcoal grey colour, there are some excellent design features. I love the thumbholes in the sleeves. And there are stirrups on the trouser leg. Just like I used to wear in the 80s, with an oversized Sweater Shop jumper and leg warmers. They also didn’t cling to my wobbly bits.

These pyjamas are the best insect repellent for camping. I was sceptical about them working. I thought they were another gimmick, but I left our trip without a single bite. My friends weren’t so lucky! However, as my boyfriend pointed out, they do cover you from head to toe. Is that why they can’t get to you?

I’m wearing an XXL. (I’m 5 foot 9, and wear clothes size 18-20)
