Adele addresses weight loss for the first time

I have had it for years, “you look like someone famous”. If I had a £1 for every time someone said I looked like Adele on a night out, I’d be nearly as rich as her. Now she has lost an estimated 7 stone, which is my weight loss goal. She’s been pretty quiet on the subject, but last week Adele addressed her weight loss for the first time.

On Saturday Night Live (SNL), Adele joked about only “bringing half of herself”. During her opening monologue, Adele approached the subject by saying, “I know I look really different from the last time you saw me, but because of all the COVID restrictions and travel bans, I had to travel light and only bring half of me, and this is the half I chose.”

Dropping the pounds

While Adele has never spoken openly about how she dropped the pounds, it is believed she has done it with daily workouts and a new diet. I can completely understand why she hasn’t talked about it. Earlier this year, I shared a photograph celebrating my 1.5 stone weight loss achievement. Instead of support for trying getting out of the obese zone – sensibly I may add – I received backlash. It led me to write, It’s ok to be on a diet.

I cannot believe the reaction she has received from trying to get healthy. Being branded as fat-phobic and enraging fat activists. Why is it that we prefer her to be the fat one, instead of concentrating on her talents?

There is even a massive debate on how she lost weight. “Experts” in the field are saying that it could have been juicing, restricting calories to under 1,000 a day, giving up booze, and ditching processed food.

Ultimately, we should be praising Adele for getting healthy. She has a young son, after all. It must be tough playing with and chasing after him carrying excess weight. According to online reports she said in an interview with US Weekly, “She really wants to be healthy and set a good example for her son,” and “She’s more focused on feeling good and the health benefits than the weight loss.”

Focus on being healthy and happy

Adele doesn’t share photos very often, but when she does, she looks happy. Adele has always come across as confident, and her great sense of humour always shines through.

Let’s not forget losing weight is hard. It takes time and dedication. I am sure she fell off the wagon a few times along the way. I truly hope her incredible weight loss has made her happy, and that she continues to be an inspiration. I hope that when I do reach my weight loss goal, I continue to get compared to the superstar.
